The Global Talent visa is a category of UK immigration for talented and promising individuals in specific sectors such as science, humanities, engineering, arts, and technology who seek to work in the United Kingdom. This UK Global talent visa from India brings forth an immigration category that allows you to settle in the United Kingdom after three years if you prove yourself a talented applicant and after five years if you are a promising candidate. Moreover, you may be able to apply for British citizenship after completing your settlement application and the required residency period in the UK. In February 2020, the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa category was phased out and replaced by the Global Talent visa.

What are the required qualifications to acquire a global talent visa?

All candidates, from India or otherwise, must acquire an endorsement from one of six recognised endorsing groups to be considered for entry under the Global Talent visa.

If you’re asking for endorsement in science, engineering, medicine, social science or the humanities, or other academic jobs and research, the Home Office will send your application to the Royal Society, UK Global talent visa from India Research and Innovation (UKRI), Royal Academy of Engineering, or British Academy. Based on your profile and the evidence you give, one of these endorsing organisations will make an endorsement decision.

Your application will be referred to Arts Council England or Tech Nation if you are applying for endorsement in non-academic disciplines such as arts and culture or digital technology.

However, if you are applying from India or other overseas nations, you will either need to have won an eligible award or have a successful endorsement by a Home Office-approved organisation. You can either apply online for a Global Talent visa or from a visa application centre. You can apply from any country as long as you have been granted permission to stay for at least 6 months in that country.

Criteria for endorsement

When evaluating a candidate, the endorsing bodies use two sets of criteria. Applicants who have already proved that they have made a substantial impact as a leader in their profession will be considered for the Exceptional Talent criteria, and then there is, Exceptional Promise criteria for applicants who may be at an early stage in their careers and have already shown the potential to make significant contributions as a future leader in their field.

How to successfully apply for an endorsement?

Before applying for the Global talent visa, the applicant must seek an endorsement by a Home Office-approved organisation. It will help establish that the applicant is an expert in his field and is eligible for the Global talent visa. You can only apply for this visa with an endorsement if you’re applying within three months of getting your endorsement letter and the organisation that supported you hasn’t revoked its approval.

If you apply for the Global Talent visa before getting an endorsement, your application might get rejected, but you’ll, however, get your visa application fee refunded (less the processing charge).

Global Talent visa documentation and processing time

To submit a successful application for the Global Talent visa, the applicant must provide a set of documents, including a valid passport, endorsement letter, tuberculosis test results (if required), and payment of the immigration health surcharge and application fee.

It can take up to 28 days for an endorsement application to be processed. If you apply from outside the UK Global talent visa from India, it can take up to three weeks, and if you apply from within the UK, it can take up to eight weeks.

Applicants for digital technology endorsements, on the other hand, may request that their application be expedited in specific instances. Priority visa applications may be available in some situations, and in that case, you don’t have to wait for the endorsement to be granted before applying for the visa. However, if the endorsement application is denied, the visa application will be denied as well.
